Job Description

\n

Catapult Solutions Group is partnering with our client to find an experienced Senior Substation Electrical Engineer (PE) to lead a team of engineers and CAD designers on electrical substation projects. In this role, you will guide the design and execution of substation engineering work, with a focus on physical layouts, general arrangements, and P&C systems.

\n

As Engineer of Record for assigned projects, you will review, approve, and seal engineering deliverables, provide technical direction to your team, and serve as a primary technical contact for utility and energy clients. You will work closely with project managers, other engineering disciplines, and field personnel to keep projects on schedule and up to standard.

\n

The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on substation engineering experience, enjoys mentoring junior engineers and designers, and is comfortable building long-term client relationships that lead to future work.

Duties and Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers, CAD designers, and technical staff on substation projects.
\n
• Oversee substation physical layouts, general arrangements, and P&C design packages.
\n
• Serve as Engineer of Record, reviewing, approving, and sealing engineering deliverables.
\n
• Perform and oversee electrical calculations, technical evaluations, and detailed design work.
\n
• Review drawings, specifications, equipment layouts, and construction packages for accuracy and code compliance.
\n
• Provide technical guidance on protective relay systems, relay settings, testing, and commissioning.
\n
• Oversee preparation of technical specifications, procurement documents, and bid packages.
\n
• Act as a primary technical point of contact for assigned utility and energy clients.
\n
• Coordinate engineering schedules, priorities, and resource assignments across the team.
\n
• Collaborate with project managers, engineering disciplines, and field personnel on project execution.
\n
• Identify opportunities for additional engineering services and support business development with existing clients.
\n
• Participate in project planning, technical reviews, and client meetings.
\n
• Conduct design reviews and ongoing training to develop junior engineers and designers.
\n
• Promote safety, technical consistency, and continuous improvement in engineering processes.

Required Experience/Skills

\n

\n
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
\n
• 5–10+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in utility substation design.
\n
• Strong background in substation physical design, general arrangements, and P&C engineering.
\n
• Experience reviewing, approving, and sealing engineering drawings and design packages.
\n
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate engineers and CAD designers.
\n
• Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC, and utility engineering standards.
\n
• Experience working directly with utility clients, EPC contractors, or engineering consulting firms.
\n
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
\n
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering design tools.
\n

Nice-to-Haves

\n

\n
• Transmission and distribution substation design experience.
\n
• Familiarity with medium- and high-voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, switchgear, and control systems.
\n
• Experience with relay settings, protection schemes, relay testing, and substation commissioning.
\n
• Experience supporting projects from conceptual design through construction and energization.
\n
• Experience managing project schedules, deliverables, and client relationships.
\n
• Prior experience as a technical lead, lead engineer, or engineering supervisor.
\n
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar electrical design software.
\n

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
