Job Summary:

The Retail Pharmacist will provide pharmaceutical care at the retail pharmacy window of a small, critical access hospital in remote Alaska. The role involves dispensing medications, counseling patients, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The pharmacist must have strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and at least two years of experience. An active Alaska pharmacist license and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree are required.

Responsibilities:

• Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently at the retail pharmacy window.
• Provide patient counseling on medication use, side effects, and interactions.
• Verify prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient medication therapy.
• Maintain compliance with pharmacy laws, regulations, and hospital policies.
• Manage inventory and ensure proper storage of pharmaceuticals.
• Document and report any medication errors or adverse drug reactions.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Pharmacist license in the state of Alaska.
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
• Minimum of two years of pharmacy practice experience.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical principles and medication management.
• Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in a critical access or rural hospital setting.
• Familiarity with retail pharmacy operations and software systems.

Special Considerations:

• Position is located in a remote Alaska community requiring adaptability to rural healthcare environment.
• Housing is provided and paid for by the employer; no pets allowed in hospital housing.
• Rental cars are not provided as housing is within close proximity to the hospital.

Scheduling:

• Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with a one-hour lunch break from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
• Short-term assignment starting November 16, 2026.
